ASTUR language courses

The element of language and language acquisition is one of the four pillars on which our success is based. More information about the four primary areas of ASTUR can be found here. The pillar of language is realised through a range of language courses, adapted to the specific conditions of all our language travel programmes. While a few characteristics of ASTUR language courses - such as provision of learning material, teacher qualification or the guaranteed maximum number of students per language class - are identical in each language travel programme, we still pay attention to optimally adapt our language courses to the specifics made necessary, when camp, class trip/group travel or One-to-One programmes are booked.

The ASTUR approach

It is very easy to combine your holiday plans and your free time with with educational impulses, adding more value to your time. As soon as you realise that your communication attempts in a foreign language are successful, your motivation to keep studying is boosted considerably. That feeling of assurance you get, once you find out that you can manage your daily life in a foreign language, is simply fantastic. Through an ASTUR language course you will reap a lasting benefit when it comes to your performance at home, because you will have found new motivation to study German. Furthermore, it definitely leaves an impression to be taught by mother-tongue teachers, who may sound very differently than your own teachers at home.

The one standard question about language courses asks, "is it worth it at all?" We can answer this question with a confident "Yes". For, even though ASTUR language courses may range from "just" 6 to a maximum of 25 units, students will in fact spend much more time dealing with/communicating through the language (listening and comprehension as well as language usage).

This effect is called "total immersion", referring to the condition of being submerged in another culture and language.

Advantages provided by ASTUR language courses

From our youngest participants aged 9 to ASTUR regulars, all participants benefit from our language courses. Whether you learn in the international environment of a summer camp, together with your class mates or as an individual student; we make it possible for our students to focus on everything that is important when learning a language.     Adapting the ASTUR approach to the specific programmes

    The ASTUR approach will always be tuned to the specific prerequisites required by our various programmes (Language Camp, Class Trip/Group Travel or One-to-One tuition). This is necessary, not least due to the different frameworks which exist on camp, while doing a language tour or during your One-to-One stay.

    International environment

    The most important characteristic at our language camps is the international atmosphere, the excitement of which no participant can withstand. The spirit on camp, where students of up to 12 different nationalities learn and play together, is unmatched. Consequently, all participants start to use one common language to communicate with each other across linguistic and cultural borders.

    We actively support this atmosphere through our international staff, originating from various European nations. That way we can set an example for all participants: making use of the languages taught in a natural and encouraging way during as well as beyond class.

    Individuality

    Whenever an international group of school children wants to travel to Germany with ASTUR, they have the opportunity to book an additional language course through us. At a number of destinations and according to the group's wishes and requests, our language teachers can prepare targeted lessons and learning material.

    That way, responsible teachers are able to set focal points of study for their students, ranging from grammar to listening comprehension to text production and themed vocabulary.

    Flexibility

    The One-to-One programme is perfectly suited for language students of all ages seeking to considerably improve their language abilities within a short period of time. It is divided into three versions, each one suited for a different age group.

    When booking One-to-One Classic (16 – 20 years of age), you will be able to use your free time any way you see fit. The classic programme is aimed at all independent young adults, interested in freely exploring their course location and surroundings.

    When booking One-to-One Premium (10 – 17 years of age), you will be looked after by your host family or local supervisors in the afternoons and on weekends.

    When booking One-to-One Professional (21 years of age or above), you will be able to discover “your city” yourself, making the most of what the culture has to offer and immersing yourself in the German lifestyle just like a local.
